28/01/2021 Duração: 46minWelcome to the Circular Metabolism podcast. This podcast is hosted by Aristide Athanassiadis from Metabolism of Cities. In this podcast we talk with researchers, policy makers and practitioners to understand what makes urban metabolism and economies more circular. On this episode, we talk with Tomas Diez, the Director of the Fab Lab Barcelona, and founder of the projects Smart Citizen and Studio P52. He is also one of the brains behind the notion of Fab City and has edited the book Fab City, the mass distribution of (almost) everything. We discuss more about the concept of Fab Cities (for more info see https://fab.city/), whether self-sufficient cities can exist and why open (source) is one of the core component for future cities.

The role of urban landscape design in circular economy transitions (Dr Julie Marin - KU Leuven)
10/11/2020 Duração: 29minWelcome to the Circular Metabolism Podcast. This podcast is hosted by the Chair of Circular Economy and Urban Metabolism held by Aristide Athanassiadis and Stephan Kampelmann at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. In this podcast, we talk with researchers, policy makers and different practitioners to unravel the complex aspects of what makes urban metabolisms and economies more circular. On this new episode (shot on Sep 5th 2019) we learn from Julie Marin the role of urban landscape design in circular economy transitions. Julie is a Postdoctoral Researcher at KU Leuven funded by Flanders' Research Foundation. One of the main assets that landscape design can bring to circular economy is to spatialise and contextualise flows, actors and infrastructures in order to anchor the often theoretical claims from circular economy. Julie also mentions that as urban and landscape design often embeds a definition or a world view, it also possible to interpret from current case studies claiming to be circular what are their m

What can African cities teach us about future resource use ? (Paul Currie - ICLEI Africa)
17/10/2020 Duração: 31minWelcome to the Circular Metabolism Podcast. On this episode we talk with our friend Paul Currie, who is a Senior Officer in ICLEI Africa and a researcher at Stellenbosch University, about what the African context can teach us on Urban Metabolism ?In fact, as environmental challenges are so manifest, African cities can be an ideal place to learn about UM and test systemic solutions. Paul share his experience about applying UM in the African context but also about spatialising it at smaller scales in order to bring out different consumption patterns. We discuss why UM is especially relevant in Africa which is rapidly urbanising, and the choices of today will have profound

What are the challenges for getting cities circular? (Oriana Romano - OECD)
17/04/2020 Duração: 30minOn episode number 15 of the Circular Metabolism Podcast, I exchange points of view with Oriana Romano, Coordinator of the Cities and Circular Economy Programme of the OECD.In this programme, Oriana and her colleagues explore what is a circular city and what are the challenges for implementing the circular economy in cities. Indeed, while a number of technological solutions exist already, legislative and economic barriers are perhaps the most challenging ones to overcome in order to get closer towards circular cities. For Oriana, perhaps one of the most promising additions of circular economy in traditional environmental regulations is its systemic approach. However, due to the added complexity it is extremely important to have extended dialogues with relevant stakeholders at different levels as well as encompassing the local context. In this quest towards circular cities, dialogues and exchanges between cities sharing similar struggles and similar stages of progression in order to understand how different circ

Le métabolisme urbain comme outil de décision? (Sabine Barles)
