There are two responses to the realization that Jesus has come. Humanity responds like the shepherds and the Magi or like King Herod. Delight is the response of every human being who understands their need and God's miraculous provision in Christ.

As the light of Christ's birth draws nearer, the darkness begins to give way to the light. Dawn is not yet come but the dead of night has passed.

Advent is the Church’s preparation for Christmas. It’s an annual introspective journey whose purpose is to make sure that our lives continue to be free from materialism and other worldly entanglements that the Christmas season includes. As we begin the journey of Advent, we begin with a proper focus on the darkness that the light of the incarnation permeated. This darkness, among other things, can be recognized in the human condition as despair. Until we understand and appreciate the despair that humanity lives in because of the Fall, we will not be prepared to celebrate Christmas as we should.

Pastor Justin circles back on his message from 1 John 2:28-3:10 with some additional and clarifying thoughts about the spiritual DNA of a child of God.

1 John 2:15-17 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life[a]—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
