Command Your Business - Military Veterans Entrepreneurs

I was fortunate enough to attend college on an Army ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) scholarship, graduate, and get commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.  I spent the next 4 ½ years serving in various leadership roles (Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Staff Officer). It has been almost 15 years since I left the Army, but the lessons I learned there still ring true today. Here are 5 things the Army Taught Me About Business. 1. Patience; 2. Take Action;  3. Interview with Kristina Guerrero. Kristina is Founder and CEO of TurboPup which manufactures high quality innovative complete meal bars for dogs that enhance the outdoor experience for pets and their owners. She attended the United States Air Force Academy, and upon graduation was commissioned as an Officer in the Air Force. Kristina served for over 12 years on active duty and in the US Air Force Reserves as a C-130 pilot where she served in Operations Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and on the Horn of Africa.

Interview with Andrew Couch. Andrew is CEO of Candy Lab and Founder of Cachetown, a location based augmented reality platform. He served as an Infantry Noncommissioned Officer in the U.S. Army in both the Balkans and Afghanistan. Andrew is a Graduate of SUNY Cortland with a degree in Economics.  

Interview with Joseph Kopser.  Joseph is CEO and Founder of RideScout, a free mobile app that provides real-time on-demand information on available transportation options. Joseph spent 20+ years in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Officer, serving in Iraq, and he also taught at both West Point and the University of Texas. Joseph graduated from West Point with  a BS in Aerospace Engineering in 1993 and received an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School in 2002.

Interview with Roger Huffstetler. Roger is Co-Founder and President at Zillabyte  a YC-funded startup whose mission is to harness the world's information to empower better business decisions.  He graduated from University of West Georgia and has MPA and an MBA from Harvard. Roger is a former United States Marine Corps Noncommissioned Officer who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Interview with Jeff Rose. Jeff is the Founder of the Good Financial Cents Blog, Author of the book Soldier of Finance, Host of the Dollars and Roses Podcast, and CEO and Founder of Alliance Wealth Management. He served in the Army National Guard as a Noncommissioned Officer during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Major Robert Dyer is an active duty Marine Corps aviation officer, a highly decorated combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and an entrepreneur who is combining his wartime experience and business acumen to create supplemental nutrition and energy products for military and active civilians alike. Rob was featured on the ABC hit show Shark Tank, where he received investment from Kevin O’Leary and Robert Herjavec.

Interview with Blake Callens. Blake is a former US Army Noncomissioned Officer who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is also the architect and co-inventor of the Webcam Social Shopper, is a Webby award winner, and is co-inventor on an e-commerce based U.S. Patent.  Blake is currently the co-Founder of the Raleigh Entrepreneurial Acceleration Lab and the Lead Engineer for SpotTrot

Interview with Douglas Burdett. Douglas is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute and was a U.S. Army artillery officer in Germany. After earning his MBA, he worked in New York City on Madison Avenue at top 10 agencies JWT and Grey Advertising. In 2001 he founded Artillery. He is listed on B2B Marketing Insider's Top 50 B2B Marketing Influencers On Twitter  and named his company’s blog, The Forward Observer, as “One of The Best B2B Marketing Blogs”

Interview with Anthony Pompliano, Founder of DigaForce and US Army Veteran who served in Iraq. Anthony played football for Bucknell University while also serving in the Army National Guard. Jake played College Football at the University of Wisconsin and then enlisted in the US Marines after graduation. He served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as an Infantryman and Scout Sniper. After he left the Marines, Jake responded to the 2010 earthquakes in Haiti and eventually founded Team Rubicon, a Non Profit that focuses on helping veterans by supporting disaster relief operations.
