Here is the dire state of humanity in unbelief. God's law shows us our guilt, but we are vastly too fallen to earn acceptance with God. Here, then, is God's promises of acceptance and righteousness as a gift, secured through faith in the saving work of Christ.

Here are the tremendous advantages of being a Jew, not a pagan, that would draw Jews to seek transformed hearts and lives. But so many of them preferred to preserve only the outward trappings of religion. Is this the case with many 'nominal' Christians today?

Romans 2 emphasizes the personal stirring of every person. Here is how, but the general response despises the greatest and kindest benefits of God, being ignorant of the reason of His longsuffering – the call to salvation. Here also is the seeking that leads to God.

Here is the bleak human condition away from God, with 23 evils that infect hearts. In the light of these, we consider the price paid by Christ of salvation, the extent of transformation in conversion, and how the opposite virtues should be growing in believers.
