The National Anthem is more than just a song to be played at sporting events. It is the essence of what the foundation of this country was built upon, freedom. The lyrics of the National Anthem were literally written in the midst of blood, death and destruction. It is an eyewitness account of men giving their lives to fight injustice and create a better world for future generations. As the battle raged on, our Nation's very first Military, Police and Firefighters were bleeding and dying, doing their job. They could see the flag. It reminded them of why they were there. It inspired them and gave them hope as it still does for me today. The connection between the "Star Spangled Banner" and our men and women in uniform is undeniable. The National Anthem is literally about them and their sacrifice which has made our country what it has become today.  I
