For RE:WARM 005 we present a slice of obscure, relatively under the radar gospel from Winston Neale that we discovered back in 2019 via his Flying High, private press L.P from 1986. Winston Neale first learnt to sing gospel standards as a child via his mother the late Eloise Neale and went on to sing with the Bethel Gospel Church from the age of 6. Winston always had an ambition to release a gospel album and on relocating to Canada this became a reality. The Flying High L.P was the culmination of all he had learnt as a gospel singer, covering songs by Robert and Joyce Irvine & Rev. E.A. Hoffman / A.J Showalter amongst others on this record. The song we became most interested in was the "Sinnerman" track written by Winston and his wife, Susan, a haunting yet beautifully atmospheric slice of new gospel. Winston’s voice, taut hand drums, guitar, bass and flute all make this an essential piece of soulful gospel with a really distinct tropical feel.
