Considered a prominent scientist in earlier American history, Benjamin Banneker was born on November 9, 1731, in Baltimore County. He had little formal education and was largely a self-taught scientist, astronomer, and surveyor who is known for being part of the team that surveyed the borders in the District of Columbia. In 1998 a park and museum on the site of his former farmstead located in Catonsville, Maryland was dedicated to his honor. #MDOTscenes
