The story of the 1987-1988 Cincinnati Woodward Bulldogs can't be told without revisiting the prior season. Coach Larry Miller's Bulldogs saw their season abruptly end in the winter of 1987, but that wouldn't stop the next version of Woodward High School basketball. The Bulldogs finished the campaign with a (26-2) mark capturing the first Division 1 state championship in OHSAA history. The team was led by the sensational Chip Jones and junior D.J. Boston. When discussing the greatest Cincinnati high school basketball team of all time, '88 Woodward has to be on the shortlist. As far as individuals go, if you never heard of Chip Jones, grab a pen and notebook. The amount of depth this team produced was simply unmatched. The Bulldogs ran away with the state championships defeating Columbus Linden McKinley (107-70) behind 27 points from Boston, 24 by Jones, and Orlando Berry added 17. Boston (51 points & 20 rebounds) and Jones (40 points) would be named Most Outstanding Play
