Have you ever gotten an invitation to something that at the end of which had this phrase: “Regrets only”? What it means, of course, is that you don’t need to tell the host if you’re coming to the party, but you only have to send them your regrets; you only have to tell them if you can’t come. And I’ve sometimes thought when I’ve received those invitations, “I wish I could send you my regrets. I’ve got a whole ton of regrets that I’d love to unload, all sorts of things I’ve done that I regret doing.
