The "this" she refers to is a list of 36 questions to ask and answer with a stranger. The questions were first assembled by the psychologist Arthur Aron. Catron studied the questions, and tried them with an acquaintance a year ago. She explains to Lori what's happened to her and her acquaintance since then.
