In this sermon we explore Jesus's message to the church of Laodicea, and we come to see that their "lukewarm" deeds like the chemically tainted, tepid water that arrived in their city were useless and revolting to Jesus because their wealth had made them spiritually self-sufficient and neglectful of the poor. We are challenged to open the door to Jesus, trusting that His presence will transform our self-centered hearts into hearts of generous, practical love for the hurting and marginalized around us.
