In the past six months of private lessons, Pinling taught me to walk in a way that allowed my torn hamstring to heal while staying constantly in motion, and for that I am incredibly grateful. The most important therapy Pinling has given me, though, is not purely physical. She can tell when old wrist or hamstring pain kicks in and always has a work-around. She is teaching me not to focus on the pain from old injuries, which are disappointing and make me want to give up, but instead to focus on the areas that are still strong. Simply taking weight off of a problem area usually fades discomfort so that the whole mechanism can keep performing. I can slouch and feel dragged towards the ground by circumstances, or I can tap into my core supports and lift myself up towards the sky - it's manual, and it's a choice.
