Tech Corner - Propagation VHF/UHF signals are all line of sight. Meaning that if there is something between you and what you are talking to, your signal may or may not be received by the receiving station. This could be a building, mountain, or even the curvature of the Earth. The approximate distance (in miles) to the radio horizon can be calculated by multiplying the square root of the antenna height (in feet) by 1.415 times.
