Sports' Forgotten Heroes

On July 12, 1910, New York Evening Mail reporter Franklin Pierce Adams filed his article after a game between the Chicago Cubs and New York Giants. Little did he or anyone know it would become one of the most famous pieces of work to ever be written about baseball, a little poem in which he proclaimed, “These are the saddest possible words, Tinker to Evers to Chance”. Those three, Tinker, Evers and Chance just might be the most famous double-play combination in MLB history and on this edition of Sports’ Forgotten Heroes we take a look back at who these the Hall of Fame baseball players were. Sure, many know the names Tinker and Evers and Chance, but very few know their first names or anything else about them with the exception that Adams wrote about them. Who were they?
