What does it mean to be a Black woman in America? How does she refuse to be pigeon-holed while simultaneously acknowledging the reality of race? How do we all embrace who we are and not be defined by being straight, gay, Asian, white, rich, poor, whatever? Host Beth Green will interview Rozz Hopson, a Black woman with roots in the South, an upbringing in the West, and life experiences that are clichés for Black American families. Her mother was a single mom, working for low wages. She was co-raised by a great-aunt in an environment of welfare, domestic violence and molestation. She was taught to straighten her hair and try to climb the ladder in white society. How did she become herself? Meet a woman who doesn’t want to be stereotyped. Share her struggle to not be defined as too white, too Black or too anything at all.
