Our tongues may be somewhat in our cheeks, but we think this is a legitimate question. From our climate change panel of November 11, we saw that we can still save ourselves. There are solutions if we act now. But is humanity worth saving? Let’s look at the record. We haven’t exactly been a blessing to the planet: rape of the land, pollution, extinction of other animals and deforestation. We haven’t always even helped ourselves either. We can boast of creating war, antibiotic-resistant germs, diet-caused illnesses, violence and genocide. Then there’s the oppression of women, abuse of children, exploitation of men, veterans with needs unmet, nursing home atrocities, masses of traumatized refugees, persistent slavery, poverty, hunger, drug and alcoholic addiction, abuse of animals, greed and stress galore.
