Violence is the energy of separation. I am not YOU, and I can treat you differently. And we all use it. Many of us have been scared by the violence in France, the radical Islamic insurgency and terrorism at home. Of course we’re scared. If we are Muslim, we fear retribution. If we are not Muslim, we fear violence from those who have taken on the mantle of religion to terrorize others. But rage, religion and righteousness don’t start or end with Islam. People wrap themselves in the mantle of Christianity or even free speech in order to rationalize their rage, racism and violence. Political leaders use these stances for self-promotion. And all of us tend to try to hide our violence behind the stance of self-righteousness of some kind. We don’t like someone’s views or behaviors, and boom, they’re not human.
