Elections are supposed to be a time when we come together to discuss our collective future. But is that what’s happening now? In the US, we’re going through the presidential primaries and seeing a lot of bickering, unsubstantiated claims, empty promises and grandstanding. Some of us feel really passionate about a candidate. Some of us don’t like any of them. But nobody can say that there’s much real discussion going on. And many of us feel uncomfortable even with our “own” candidates, because we don’t see substantial debate or we distrust their forthrightness or wonder if they’re just jockeying for votes.
