  • Uncut Gems and Kelly Armor

    08/06/2020 Duração: 43min

From Adam Sandler and and the Safdie brothers comes "Uncut Gems," a critical darling seemingly fueled by anxiety about the high-risk, high-reward world of the New York City underbelly. In addition to talking the movie, John, Erika, Stew (live from a train!), and Mike talk with Kelly Armor, an Erie native, folklorist and teaching artist working with Erie Arts & Culture.  Learn more about Kelly here.  Follow us on Twitter / Facebook / Instagram "night vibe" available via Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license. • Climax and Jason McCann

    01/06/2020 Duração: 01h11min

You have never seen a movie like Climax. From Gaspar Noe, a director that self-proclaims he makes movies only for his self-satisfaction and pleasure, Climax follows a dance troupe through a collective bad trip. Streaming on Netflix. John, Erika, Stew, and Mike talk with Jason McCann, an Erie native working grip and electric with film productions nationwide. Industry news includes the Chattanooga Film Festival. • The Lighthouse and The Last FUQ

    25/05/2020 Duração: 57min

What’s a timber man want with being a wickie? This week, we explore mythology and masculinity on the edge of a grey, damp, isolated tower in an unknown sea. Willem Dafoe (OLD) and Robert Pattinson (YOUNG) star in The Lighthouse, streaming on Amazon Prime, a film that is best or worst viewed under quarantine, depending on who you ask. John, Erika, Jesse, and Stew are joined by Jesus Munoz, GEFO’s young protégé. Spoiler alert: he didn’t like the movie. He stands alone! • A Serious Man and Lil Miquela

    18/05/2020 Duração: 01h04min

Seriously, what is going on here? Film fan and scholar Spencer Myers joins John, Erika, Jesse, and Mike to discuss his recommendation, the Oscar-nominated A Serious Man, streaming on Netflix. You might feel a camaraderie with protagonist Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlberg) as lots of horrible stuff is happening to him and he isn’t doing much about it. Sound familiar lately? John makes a case that we are living in Blade Runner 2020 and is reaching out to Lil Miquela’s agent for his next movie. • Troop Zero and COVID-19 Update

    11/05/2020 Duração: 47min

Is there life on Mars? This week, John, Erika, Jesse, and Mike take the recommendation of listener Heather Steinbrink and watch Troop Zero on Amazon Prime. Christmas Flint dreams of a life amongst the stars and a chance to be on NASA’s Voyager Golden Record (which was a real, very cool thing in 1977). Based on film co-writer Lucy Alibar’s play Christmas and the Jubilee Behold the Meteor Shower, it’s full of fun names like Wiggly, Hell-No, and Smash. Erika plugs daily state and local COVID-19 updates as the don't-miss horror show of the century.
