  • 87: Why Your Aren't Happy and How to Change it | Dr. Catherine Sanderson

    03/05/2019 Duração: 26min

What is happiness? It’s amazing to think that we live in a society where we literally need to be trained on how to be happy! This area caught my interest when I was reading into the neuroscience of depression. So I went on to read many articles and literature and came about this book called, The Positive Shift, written by Catherine Sanderson and I knew that she had to come onto the podcast. Catherine got her Phd from Princeton University and in this episode she is going to talk to us about the science of happiness and how we are responsible every single day for making ourselves happy. Just like I say with motivation, you can’t just wake up and have it, you have to generate it which is just the same as happiness. You can’t just expect to magically be happy you have to put in the work! • Why You Can’t Control Other People | SUNDAY FIRE

    21/04/2019 Duração: 05min

As we all know, we can’t control anyone else’s behavior, and we can’t make another person want to or be able to change. But we can always make the choice to shift our attention inward, to focus the lens of curiosity onto ourselves. And remember, by investigating our own experience, we are not condoning the behavior that triggers our suffering, nor are we assuming responsibility for having caused it. Getting curious about what is happening inside us in a particular situation, naming it, understanding it, unpacking its history, and bringing compassion to it—this the surest path to freeing oneself from the cycle of blame and the need to change what we don’t like. Ultimately, self-awareness is the most powerful and profound antidote to suffering. The Neuro Athletics Newsletter Instagram: @louisanicola_Twitter : @louisanicola_YouTube: @Louisa NicolaThe Neuro Experience Podcast is proud to have hosted: Dr Andrew Huberman, Dr Gabrielle Lyon, Dr Layne Norton, Thomas DeLauer, Shawn Stevenson, Dr. Rocio Salas-Whalen, Sa

  • 84: The Science of Overtraining | OLIVIA AMATO

    18/04/2019 Duração: 37min

If a little exercise is good for you, more must be better, right? Yes, but only up to a point. When it comes to exercise volume, there is a “dose-response relationship,” which means that the more you work out, the more benefits you will achieve, but there is a tipping point beyond which the amount of exercise you perform can do more harm than good. This point can be reached by one or both of the following two ways:1. Too much exercise without enough recovery2. Chronic underfuelingThis tipping point is known as overtraining syndrome (OTS) and, in short, leads to a decrement in fitness level and possibly injury. Today in the studio we have Olivia Amato, cycling and treadmill instructor at Peloton here to talk about her journey, the art and science of overtraining and how to effects the mental state of an athlete.
