04/04/2017 Duração: 27minFreshBox Farms' indoor hydroponic farms are bringing fresh produce closer to your home by breaking down the old barriers set by traditional farming. Their produce is delivered to stores within 24 hours of harvest; often in the same day. Growing indoors at their farm in Millis, Massachusetts, means their greens are always in-season, and are available FRESH all year-round. 138: Spring Organizing with Sarah from Organizing U
28/03/2017 Duração: 26minSpring is here. The air is warmer, the sun is brighter and this motivates us to want to clear out the old and make everything fresh and new again. Here are three things you can do to get your home organized for spring. 1 Declutter The first and most important step in spring cleaning is to get rid of clutter. The less clutter you have, the easier it will be for you to clean and organize. Whatever space you're working in, you'll want to start by sorting through everything and donate, recycle or toss any unused or unwanted items. Start with obvious junk like magazines and papers. Pay special attention to getting rid of anything past its prime by checking all expiration dates on canned goods, dry goods, medication, sunscreen and cosmetics. You will be surprised by how much is beyond the date and can move along, creating valuable space! Getting rid of things can be a struggle for a lot of people. Make it easy on yourself and have trash and donation bags at the ready. Make sure you compile a list of local charities

137: Do you know what's in your water?
21/03/2017 Duração: 18minDo you know what's in your water? Ask the community of Flint, Michigan that questions and they would say, "we do now". But for those citizens of Flint its too late. They trusted their town officials and look where it got them. In reality, there is no way to really know what is in your water unless you get it tested. And tested regularly. Testing your water can be very expensive. Some people who have wells get their water tested on a regular basis and can pay up to $250 dollars per test. That's very expensive and probably not in your budget. The biggest problem for the community of Flint was not the bad smell or the cloudy looking water. It was the lead that was leeching into the water from the pipes. The lead was affected by the acidic water from the Flint River, which broke down the lead pipes and infiltrated the water Along with lead, your water can also have things like pesticides, pharmaceuticals and even rocket fuel in it. And a typical pitcher water filter won't re

27/02/2017 Duração: 20minIn my podcast, 135: Eating You Alive The Movie, we interviewed the director and co-producers of the movie, Eating You Alive. 134: Cleaning with water, salt, vinegar and a touch of electricity
09/02/2017 Duração: 29min"We created Force of Nature because we don't think families should have to trade off great cleaning results for safe ingredients." Force of Nature is a small appliance that turns tap water plus a capsule of salt, water & vinegar into a cleaner & deodorizer that powers through odors, grease, grime, oil, sticky messes and soap scum as effectively as bleach. Melissa Lush is one of the co-founders of Force of Nature. She heads up marketing for the company, which means she works like crazy to introduce this amazing technology of electrolyzed water to families who are trying to avoid toxic chemicals. She is the mother of a curious little boy (messy scientist, explorer & artist) and a very mischievous border collie (who never met a cabinet door he couldn't open). When she heard about electrolyzed water and started doing some research, she couldn't believe how unsafe even so-called "natural" cleaning products were. She was shocked about how hard it was for families with allergies, asthma

133: Cleaning without chemicals with E-Cloth
07/02/2017 Duração: 26minChemical Free Cleaning. This isn't some marketing gimmick and E-cloth is not an As Seen On TV disappointment that you hear about on the evening news - In fact,e-cloth is featured in the May issue of Real Simple and has been rated Best of the Best in three separate categories! Chemical Free Cleaning isn't a product as much as a lifestyle change. Choosing to clean differently in order to clean better with less effort, and make your home safer by eliminating toxic chemicals. e-cloth is just a better cloth and a better clean! Scientifically Better The best microfiber cloths on the market have between 90,000 and 200,000 fibers per square inch (MOST cloths being sold only have 25,000-75,000). E-cloths have 3.1 Million* fibers per inch. This is possible because they've developed a better manufacturing process – using technology to be better. Why are fibers important? The cloths are made of polyester and nylon, so they don't "absorb" anything. Water, dirt, oil, grease, gri

122: Detoxing Your Home
13/10/2016 Duração: 19minThis show is one of my favorites (and not because it's just me on the show). I was lucky enough to be asked to speak at the Gloria Gemma event in Providence called Passport to Wellness. This event is a free healthy living expo offering health, wellness, cancer care information and resources. One area that is never talked about with cancer patients or survivors is the toxic chemicals that are found in your home. Carol, the administrator at the Gloria Gemma Foundation, was a two time cancer survivor when I met her. She came to one of my workshops and was surprised to learn that Comet has 7 known carcinogens in it. (Per EWG.org). I showed her how to mix up a simple substitute cleaner with just baking soda, salt and oxygen bleach that works better than Comet. This led to me teaching other survivors and patients that we really need to look at what we are using in our homes and try to remove those things that can hurt our families. This year I did a presentation called Detox Your

121: Silent Spring Study - You Have Toxic Dust In Your Home!
05/10/2016 Duração: 26minSilent Spring Institute's new study reveals the top 10 consumer product chemicals in dust that can harm humans. "Household dust exposes people to a wide range of toxic chemicals from everyday consumer products, according to a new study. These are chemicals found in consumer products and building materials and have been associated with numerous health effects including cancer, hormone disruption, and development and reproductive problems. The study is the first comprehensive analysis of toxic chemicals in house dust, compiling data from more than two dozen studies throughout the United States. It reveals what the average American is likely exposed to on a routine basis. "We've known, from our previous research, that these chemicals can end up in indoor dust," says co-author Robin Dodson, an environmental exposure scientist at Silent Spring Institute. "Now we can say with confidence that these chemicals are in fact pervasive in U.S. homes, which is highly concerning given the possible health ef
