One generally assumes the struggle for better working conditions mainly occurs in the workplace. But the New York City Council has long championed workplace issues and now a former Union President is member of that body. Councilman Daneek Miller tells how his experience as a labor leader and former President of ATU Local 1056 has equipped him to advocate for workplace issues within the Council. Apurva Mehrotra, a policy analyst for the Community Service Society  has written an exhaustive study of how tipped workers struggle to make ends meet on a minimum wage far below that paid to most workers  He discusses his findings.
