    23/05/2011 Duração: 02h31min

Apologies for the delays, but Golden Age Superman is here once again, and this time I am joined by Superman blogger Stephen Lacey of the World of Superman blog. This week, Superman gets an abusive caregiver arrested for arson and stops some jewel smugglers with the help of Lois Lane in Superman 3.  Then it's Action Comics 20, the second installment in the final trilogy of the Ultra Humanite, where Ultra does some gender bending and comes out of the story with more estrogen and soft skin than he had last issue.  And in the newspaper dailies, Clark goes to work for the DAILY PLANET!! 09/05/2011 Duração: 01h55min

This week, on Golden Age Superman, I am joined by good friend Donovan Morgan Grant of Amazing Spider-Man Classics and Clone Saga Chronicles.  Together, we take a look at Action Comics 19, the first of the final three stories to feature the Ultra-Humanite.  The people of Metropolis are dying from the Purple Plague, and only Superman can stop the one responsible.  Then it's off to the newspaper strips where Superman is victim of female shenanigans on several sides as the royal deathplot continues. • 017 Golden Age Superman -- September 1939

    02/05/2011 Duração: 39min

Thank you for downloading and listening to Golden Age Superman.  This week, World War II officially gets underway in Europe, and in Action Comics 18, Superman is confronted with the vile evils of blackmail.  He has to help a senator avoid some nefarious schemes so that he can get re-elected, which you'd hope would turn out to be more exciting than it sounds.  You'd hope.  Next week, though, brings us the first installment of the Ultra-Humanite's final trilogy of stories in the Golden Age, so come back for that! • 016 Golden Age Superman -- August 1939

    26/04/2011 Duração: 01h59min

This week on Golden Age Superman, it's bunches of Superman stories in the first episode to have both the monthly and quarterly books in full effect.  In Superman 2, reprinting several stories from the newspapers, the Man of Tomorrow helps a depressed ex boxing champ, "Superman Champions Universal Peace" and kills a WHOLE buncha people along the way, and stops a skyscraper construction project from being sabotaged in "Superman and the Skyscrapers".  Then in Action Comics 17, the Man of Steel learns that the passenger liners of a shipping line are getting blown up one by one, and you'll never guess who's behind it, on his way to world domination.  All this and an announcement of a new show I'm going to be involved in!  Enjoy and tell all your friends! • 015 Golden Age Superman -- July 1939

    14/04/2011 Duração: 57min

School's been keeping me busy, but in the face of all homework and paper deadlines, I once again have for you an episode of Golden Age Superman!  This week, in Action Comics 16, it's back to social justice basics for the Man of Steel, as Superman decides to do something about gambling and the numbers racket that is destroying lives and finances in Metropolis.  What?  In where?  That's right, we finally get a name for the city of Superman's exploits!  All this, and our first decoding, too! • 014 Golden Age Superman -- June 1939

    05/04/2011 Duração: 01h20min

Just a few days later than usual on this one, but here is the episode of Golden Age Superman, covering the two issues of Action Comics that were released in June.  (Why were there two?  Listen and all shall be made known!)  First, in Action Comics 14, Superman is lured into a trap by the Ultra-Humanite, who managed to survive last issue's plane crash.  And Ultra sets the standard for all supervillain traps to come by making it way more convoluted and prone to fail than it needed to be.  Then in Action Comics 15, Superman goes hunting for treasure, hoping the gold from a sunken Spanish galleon will save a nearly bankrupt boys' home. • 013 Golden Age Superman -- May 1939

    26/03/2011 Duração: 02h07min

This is it.  This is the big one.  The premiere of Superman issue #1.  And to commemorate the event, I have brought together some of the best in Superman podcasting today -- Michael Bailey and Jeffrey Taylor of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast, Charlie Niemeyer from Superman in the Bronze Age, and Kaman Stowell of the Superman Video Podcast.  Together, we first take a look at Action Comics 13, where a protection racket turns out rather randomly to be the sinister machination of Superman's first recurring villain -- the Ultra-Humanite.  Then we look at the new material in Superman 1, including the hero's origin, and reminisce on how this book has affected all our lives.  And we can't leave out the Action Comics backup features or the newspaper strips.  So come join the party! • 012 Golden Age Superman -- April 1939

    19/03/2011 Duração: 01h26min

Welcome to a new era in Golden Age Superman, as I say goodbye to the days where Superman was only ever published in one book.  This week, I'll be taking a look at Action Comics 12, where Superman declares war on reckless drivers, but is a bit reckless himself in the process.  Then it's a trip to the World's Fair with the Man of Tomorrow in New York World's Fair Comics.  With more books come more minutes spent talking about them, so this episode is a bit longer than they have usually been, but that's going to be more common as we move forward.  So come along into this new chapter in the life of the Man of Steel! 27/02/2011 Duração: 44min

It's happy new year time here at Golden Age Superman as we say good bye to 1938 and hello to 1939, the year that saw Superman's popularity begin to explode.  In addition to the detective antics of Action Comics 9, this episode also covers Superman's premiere in a daily newspaper strip that will run for decades.  Later in the year, we will see an over-sized one-shot special leading off with a Superman story as well as the beginning of a quarterly comic book entirely devoted to his adventures. 20/02/2011 Duração: 50min

Golden Age Superman is back, to close out Superman's inaugural year with one of the greatest tales of the early area.  Superman meets some slum kids and helps them out by taking on the slums themselves and forcing the government to provide better housing.  It's one of the most iconic moments of this era, and it's all here at Golden Age Superman, plus a look back at the best and worst of 1938. Thank you for downloading Golden Age Superman.  This episode, I am joined by a special guest.  Hooray!  Say hello to Jeffrey Taylor of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast.  He and I take a look at Action Comics 7, where Superman ... wait for it ... JOINS THE CIRCUS!!  We had a great time together, and the story resonates into recent episodes of his show, with the "Time and Time Again" storyline they recently covered.  Plus my regular coverage of all your favorite backup features like Tex Thomson and Zatara. In the course of the episode, Jeffrey and I discuss the most valuable comics.  The website I'm using for reference can be found here. • 006 Golden Age Superman -- October 1938

    05/02/2011 Duração: 55min

Welcome back everyone to Golden Age Superman.  This episode, we are taking a look at Action Comics 6, published in October 1938, which sees Superman face down his own ... personal manager??  It's a cornball story with lots of good bits, especially with the evils of Lois Lane.  Also, my thoughts and feelings on the casting of Henry Cavill as the newest Superman!  So the episode's a bit longer than usual this week.  Hope you enjoy! 29/01/2011 Duração: 32min

Hello, and welcome again to Golden Age Superman.  This week, we're taking a look at Action Comics 5, which is probably my favorite issue we've done so far.  The Superman story is a little shorter, but it's a rather good action-packed adventure with Superman saving a town from a ruptured dam.  Also, the Superman/Clark/Lois triangle officially starts with this issue.  So come check it out! The show is now being supported by the Superman Homepage, the largest Superman news/information site on the Internet, and if by chance you've never been, I strongly encourage you to check it out. 22/01/2011 Duração: 32min

Welcome back to Golden Age Superman.  This episode, in Action Comics 4, Superman decides to play football.  Yes, the champion of the oppressed is stopping thugs while potentially ruining a man's life in the process.  But by chance, it all manages to work out in the end. I'm so glad you're checking out the show.  New episode notifications are always sent out over Facebook.  Golden Age Superman is a proud member of the Superman Podcast Network.  If you wish to send feedback, you may do so in the comments below or via email.  You can also subscribe to the show through iTunes.  Thank you for listening!

  • 003 Golden Age Superman -- July 1938

    15/01/2011 Duração: 22min

Welcome again to Golden Age Superman.  This episode, I spend a little time with Action Comics 3, which features Superman in costume for all of one panel.  The story is a pretty simple morality tale, so the episode goes quickly. I appreciate you downloading the show.  Golden Age Superman is a proud member of the Superman Podcast Network.  If you wish to send feedback, you may do so in the comments below or via email.  You can also subscribe to the show through iTunes.  Thank you for listening!

    08/01/2011 Duração: 33min

Welcome back to Golden Age Superman.  This episode, we take a look at Action Comics 2, resolving last week's "Oh, no, falling!" cliffhanger.  It's a more standard episode length until we get to multiple books per episode. I hope you enjoy the ride.  Golden Age Superman is a proud member of the Superman Podcast Network.  If you wish to send feedback, you may do so in the comments below or via email.  You can also subscribe to the show through iTunes.  Thank you for listening!

  • 001 Golden Age Superman -- May 1938

    01/01/2011 Duração: 51min

Welcome and thank you for checking out this new podcast on the Golden Age Superman.  Here, we'll be covering every appearance of the character from Action Comics 1 forward. In this first episode, I take some time to introduce myself and the purpose of the show, but then we get down to business examining the first issue of Action Comics, focusing on the Superman story, but also taking a brief look at the rest of the contents of the issue. For now, each episode will simply consist of an Action Comics synopsis and review.  Down the road, when there are multiple issues per month, I'll cover those as well, grouping issues into episodes according to release date.  Most of Superman's titles were not monthly, so cover dates are sometimes hard to classify, so we'll stick to approximate release dates of the issues. I hope you enjoy the ride.  Golden Age Superman is a proud member of the Superman Podcast Network.  You can follow the show on Facebook or subscribe to it on iTunes.  If you wish to send feedback, you may do
