Each squad had their five-minute slot to share achievements from the sprint, and Scott was coordinating the entire event. When one particular team member delivered what Scott considered fantastic work, he couldn't help but publicly recognize them during the introduction.  It seemed like the perfect moment to celebrate excellence in front of the entire organization. But then his phone rang. The individual he had praised was unhappy—really unhappy. What Scott learned in that moment transformed his approach to recognition forever.
