House Edition 2008 v5 (Take 3)
06/11/2008 Duração: 01h32minRick came home from work in a pretty good mood yesterday baring a pound of fresh shrimp. I'm not sure what the occasion was, but I sure do love shrimp on a platter of ice. Drown it in some lemon, with Tabasco and cocktail sauce, a few beers and you're pretty much set for the evening. Yummy! That always brings back great memories of back home. Sitting on the deck of one of my favorite restaurants 'Pirates Bay' in Port Isabel/South Padre Island on a sunny summer day and having some beer and shrimp with friends, is sorely missed. Afterward, the shrimp was coupled with some hot sex (I knew he was up to something) to cap off our evening...YUMMIER! Now that my head is clear and I've come back down to earth from the previous week's delusional behavior due to lack of sleep, it's time to assess what just happened on November 4th. With democratic control of both houses, things are looking pretty damn good from where I sit. The way I see it, we have 2 - 3 Supreme Court justices that have been holding out for re

House Edition 2008 v5 (Take 2)
05/11/2008 Duração: 01h31minI'm sorry for the late post. I was pretty much delirious last night and finally dropped just after midnight. I do have to say that as someone who rarely if ever get choked up over sad movies or someone who has never joined a fan club, I pretty much lost it last night. I don't know, maybe it was the Prednisone I've been taking since I haven't had much sleep in the past week and a half. I admit I fell apart and started sobbing like a baby. Now, I'm no sissy, but I just couldn't help it. House Edition 2008 v5 (Take 1)
04/11/2008Perhaps it's a bit presumptive of me to post this before the polls have closed, but the current polling suggests that Barack Obama has a healthy 11 point lead over John McCain, well over the margin of error. If those stats are to be believed, then this country, for the first time in our history, will have put a black man in the Oval Office. Even more significant, are the record 29 million votes already cast in early voting. Coupled with all of the voting to take place today, this election has engaged Americans like no other election in history and is quite possibly one of the most memorable events of my lifetime. If Michelle Obama was only recently proud of her country for the first time in her life, I can honestly say the same thing. Certainly, we approach that sentiment from a different perspective, but I understand the intolerance, the hatred, the bigotry behind those views. As a disabled, gay American, I get it from all sects of society. Nevertheless, I am a product of my Catholic conservative pare

Halloween Edition 2008 v3
29/10/2008 Duração: 02h49minI decided to go ahead and put this out a day early because I'm going to be busy most of the afternoon and expect to be spending Thursday in the hospital being poked and prodded. Friday I get a reprieve but have to go back on Saturday for about 6 hours worth of MRI's. I had been in pretty extreme pain for about two weeks, and those dumb-ass doctors wouldn't give me painkillers (something most doctors are reluctant to do here in the states since it's heavily regulated and they have to account for and justify the prescription). Anyway, they finally put me on steroids which seems to work just fine, but even then they didn't give me enough to get through the day. Three pills a day lasts about 8 hours before I need to take it again. I am generally persistent until I get what I want, but won't pursue it until I'm about out. Hopefully, the results from all these tests (most I'm certain unnecessary, but when you're insured to the hilt...) will be in this next week. Oh well, my misery is your gain. After all, th

Halloween Edition 2008 v2
28/10/2008 Duração: 01h41minAs promised, I've got the second installment of the Halloween Edition. I hope everyone has their costumes put together for Friday's celebration. In keeping with the theme, I'm serving up one wicked ass mix! Surprisingly, I don't have much to say at the moment, so I'll just let it speak for itself. I'll be back Thursday with the final installment, which is massive, to say the least; so make room, cause that will be one big MF! On another note, you may have heard that Jennifer Hudson recently lost her mother, brother, and nephew to a horrible tragedy in Chicago. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family during this difficult time, and it is my hope that justice is rendered in this tragic situation. Peace. Halloween Edition 2008 v1
26/10/2008 Duração: 01h34minAs we move closer to the end of October and deeper into autumn, everyone's favorite time of the year to get freaky is just around the corner. Of course, I'm talking about Halloween. It's a time of chills and thrills and the opportunity for many to live out their fantasies, if only for one night. Frankly, I've never been one to get all excited about dressing up for the occasion. I'm not really sure why; but, it sure is fun to go out to the bars and check everyone out in their wildest costumes. I think the last time I dressed up was some years ago when I came home from college and went out with some friends to one of the new bars that had just opened up. My friend Tery was bartending that night and he and his partner were dressed up as Captain Kirk and Lieutenant O'Whora! The Lieutenant had strapped on a Dolly Parton-size bra and filled it with these humongous water balloons. She'd be behind the bar just shaking those things as fast as she could whip up a Cosmo. Another friend Robbie dressed up as a pr

Deep Edition 2008 v10 [Take 4]
14/10/2008I'm serving up the final installment of the Deep Edition v10, a mix that got way out of control as far as I'm concerned. It's not that the music isn't any good, but I really need to learn how to start editing myself...LOL. If I had to rate this overall series, I'd probably give it a B+ taking off points for being bloated if not overindulgent. At least now I can start focusing on the next House Edition which will be a serious departure from these progressive tunes. I already see some issues regarding length there, but I'll do my best to keep it down to two mixes, each within a reasoned timeframe. It's not that I can't do it, it's just that sometimes I kinda let the music take me away; can you say "ground control to Major Tom"? That being said, Party Favorz wants to know what you think. Was this overindulgent on my part, was it just right or did it flat out suck? Leave me your thoughts, I promise not to take offense...well maybe...LOL. Tomorrow, I have the next installment of the guest DJ series featuri

Deep Edition 2008 v10 [Take 3]
13/10/2008As promised, I've got the third installment of this series for you guys (and gals). Unlike its predecessors, this mix is darker and moodier and less commercial. That is until you get to the last song, Morgan Page's latest offering which is more mainstream prog. I'll be back tomorrow with the final installment and then I can move on to the next House Edition which will be a definite change of mood. I see that our subscriptions have gone up considerably ever since I joined the Widgetbox LGBT community. I want to welcome all of the newbies. Just so you know, the Deep series is not for everyone (particularly in the U.S.). Stick around because there's always something for everyone. I hope everyone has a great work week...Enjoy! Deep Edition 2008 v10 [Take 2]
12/10/2008 Duração: 02h05minSorry for the delay in getting this out today. I've been bogged down with router issues and on the phone with Linksys pretty much all morning. Then, my mom calls and she's having computer problems. Since she's in Texas and I'm in Georgia, I usually just log into her computer and fix whatever needs fixing. This time, her monitor is out. After troubleshooting with her over the phone, I came to the conclusion she needs a new monitor. Of course, she decided it would be best to get a newer and faster computer...LOL. All she needed was an excuse to take it to my dad (even if her CPU was fine, he doesn't know anything about computers). Anyway, I can use my employee discount from Dell and pick out a really sweet deal for her. I called a buddy of mine back home who's in IT, and he agreed to go over and set it up for her and transfer all of her files at no charge. At least, that will save me a lot of time on the phone with her. I went ahead and got her the 4 year extended warranty so I can now just refer her

Deep Edition 2008 v10 [Take 1]
11/10/2008It's been one heck of a week that had me running around like a chicken with my head cut off. After having my car engine replaced (thank God for that 100,000 mile warranty) and replacing my brakes, I finally got all new tires and my car runs like new. Not that anyone gives a rat's ass, but for me that's great...LOL! Frankly, I had finished these mixes up about 2 weeks ago and decided to go back yesterday and start going through them. I went back to Beatport and purchased four more songs and dropped them in where appropriate. For the most part, this turned out to be a massive four set mix that was pretty much done in one take (with the exception of the new additions). Only one song got the edit treatment on Take 4, because it clocked in at 11:00, which is way too long. Finding it difficult to edit myself this go around, I stopped each mix when I encountered a roadblock; meaning when I couldn't find a way to mix out of the last song or just didn't want to bother. Regardless, this entire four set is compr

Electro-Funk Edition 2008 v8 (Take 3)
04/10/2008 Duração: 01h37minWrapping things up with the third and final installment of the Electro-Funk Edition v8, I'm giving you a mix a bit longer than the first two. I have to tell you, this is quite possibly the most difficult mix I've made all year long. First I started out with over 240 mediocre songs and what looked like a four mix set. Fortunately, a lot of great stuff came out between the time I started this mix about 3 weeks ago and now. My process is usually to preview all the songs that I want to use for a specific mix and then start the process of elimination, giving each song about 10 seconds before I make up my mind. Then I throw everything together in one giant mix, burn it to mp3 disc and preview it (in my car, at home or in the gym) and decide which final songs will make the cut. Then I go back and do the official mix generally in one take and edit down as necessary. This go around, I had a bitch of a time deciding what to keep and what to throw out. Even after I made my final decisions, about 1/4 of the songs

Zena Chavez Serious electro-funk with some serious vocals that cannot be denied. Massive floor filler is the best way to describe this song with a really deep groove. This further proves that the Soul Avengerz are in complete control and delivering some of the best beats so far this year. Essential. Electro-Funk Edition 2008 v8 (Take 1)
02/10/2008 Duração: 01h19minI woke up this morning to find a deep chill in the air. I like to sit on the patio and have my morning cup of coffee and just kinda meditate in the dark, but I went back in to grab my sweats because my bones just couldn't take it. Regardless, the sun is already coming out and I can see blue skies for the remainder of the day. Yet again, another wonderful fall day here in the ATL. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to post this until next week; thankfully an anonymous donor contributed the $40 necessary to keep my Podbean account alive. That's a good thing because this is the first of three mixes to be posted over the next few days for volume 8 of the Electro-Funk series. I'm almost finished with the next Deep Edition which will be up next week. Since I moved all my Guest DJ mixes up, there may be a gap between now and the next mix. I guess that's okay considering my self-imposed rest never got off the ground. As you can see by the 'Coming Soon' preview to your left, I've got a ton of stuff schedu

Deep Edition 2008 v7 [Take 2]
21/09/2008The first day of Autumn is almost here, and the weather in the ATL is certainly fitting. We finally got some sun yesterday, so it was only fair for me to get out and fart around the city. Sorry, but the day was too nice to stay at home and work on the next post. Besides, I had to get some car work done...LOL. Actually, I wish I had a laptop so I could get two things done at once. If I'm going to be sitting around the dealership for a couple of hours, might as well take advantage of the wasted time. Their coffee and stale donuts don't exactly carry a person for very long. Oh well, it's finally here and ready for your listening pleasure. Just remember, this take contains more gray than color, so it is definitely deeper and darker than its predecessor. I'll be finishing up the cover art for our next guest, DJ Steve Henderson out of Chicago. This guy has a resume that puts most to shame, so I'm really excited about what he's going to drop on us. I hope everyone has a fabo weekend and until the next time

Deep Edition 2008 v7 [Take 1]
19/09/2008Those of you that follow this edition may be asking yourself...volume 7? Thanks to our good friend Klaus a.k.a. DJ K-Os who pointed out that I skipped volume 7 and went straight to 8 & 9, I decided to correct that. Granted, it jumps out of place, but better late than never. If you're looking for the more progressive version of the Deep series, this ain't it. I decided it was time to go back to the dark side. No, not the "Luke come over to the dark side" rather some deeper house music, which is what this series was originally intended to be. I'm thinking that I may rename all of the series in 2009. For instance, Electro-Funk will be called the 'BPM Edition', Progressive the "System Edition', Classix the 'Chrome Edition', Deep the 'Chill Edition' and the circuit mixes will remain the same. I haven't come up with a name for the 'House Edition' yet only because all of the aforementioned represent a dance station on XM Satellite radio and there isn't one for just good ole house music. This is tentative, s

04/09/2008Just a reminder, this will be my last mix for awhile since I need to focus on some other things for about a month or so. In the interim, I'm hoping to get several DJ's onboard who are interested in submitting a mix and I will create the cover art and promote you and/or your blog/MySpace/Facebook page. As this site continues to grow at a steady pace each day, you'll have very good exposure. If interested, please contact me through the 'about me' section of this site where you'll find my email address. I want to take this opportunity for the loyalist among you who have contributed (whether financially or comments) and subscribed to alerts via feed or email; you're always appreciated and I won't be gone that long. In the meantime, I hope everyone enjoys this mix and if you're living in the London vicinity, why not head on over the West End and check out Electroqueer night @ Barcode. Doors open at 8 pm and it should be a lot of fun! I should be back in about 30 days or so. Until then...ENJOY! Electro-Funk E

House Edition 2008 v4 (Take 2)
20/08/2008 Duração: 01h19minHere it is, the second installment of the House Edition v4, served up on a sizzling hot platter of disco with a side of seventies soul. The ATL has already been experiencing some fall-like weather with cooler evenings and temps ranging in the low to mid-eighties during the day. Suits me fine as I always enjoy the transition from summer to autumn. I'll be starting the much delayed Classix Edition: 90's part deuce shortly. House Edition 2008 v4 (Take 1)
18/08/2008 Duração: 01h19minI want to welcome everyone to the final House Edition of the summer. Don't expect another Beach House mix 'cause that ain't what's being served up. Instead, I purposely took this mix in a more uplifting direction full of fun disco house music. Granted, there's definitely a lot of soul to boot, but it is the 'fun' aspect I was focusing on. Besides, summer will end soon and I wanted to leave on a feel-good note. I hope all the disruptions this weekend didn't kill my vibe, but I think I really delivered on this one; not just on song choice but mixing as well. I'll be back tomorrow or the day after with Take 2 of this mix. Until then...ENJOY! If you enjoy this podcast: 1. Leave me a comment at the end of this post. That's one of the ways I gauge what people are feeling and it ensures I'll continue making this type of mix in the future 2. Madonna Melt Down Promo | The Diva Series
13/08/2008In 1983, I was a junior in high school and worked after school for an independent record store on the north side of town. It was the year the music world gave birth to Madonna. The cable company just added MTV to our channel lineup the year before, so it was the first chance I had to view this person who dared to call herself "Madonna." It was also the Reagan era, a time when my father saw his shoe business take off and dear ole mom and dad were jetting around the world discovering new places. Even though she had a top 20 hit with Holiday it wasn't until the subsequent releases of Borderline and Lucky Star that the world stood up and took notice. There was something special about this woman, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I graduated the following year and moved to Austin where I worked full-time for the Austin American Statesman as a copy clerk and part-time for Hastings Records at the mall. Having already made a splash at the MTV awards with her now-infamous floor-wriggling performance in a
